The Thanksgiving Day Gobble Wobble is one of the only 5K races I do year after year (it is pretty much my least favorite race distance).
I keep coming back to this one for a few reasons:
– registration is reasonable
– they have morning of packet pickup so I don’t have to make an extra trip
– traffic/parking is super manageable
– the course is absolutely beautiful
– it is a great way to start Thanksgiving with friends and family
This year was a bit rougher than past years because it was the coldest Thanksgiving we have had in Charleston in a while. As I dressed for the race I checked the weather to find it was only 32 degrees! That is pretty unusual here and made waiting for the race feel FREEZING. However, once we got started it slowly began to warm up a bit and it made the run pretty pleasant. (It also made me very thankful I moved from Indy, which was way colder than CHS.)
I ran with my sister-in-law Amanda who was in town visiting for the holiday week. Since we were running together I didn’t wear my Garmin, we just talked and enjoyed ourselves and the sights the entire time. I couldn’t even tell you what my finish time was, and the truth is I am fine with that. I enjoy doing some races just for fun.
When you are running a race you paid to enter is it always for time?
Do you ever do races just for fun?
Do you believe in running naked (watch free)?
