I was really excited when Terra’s Kitchen reached out to me to review their meal kit delivery service because the truth is that dinners around my place are pretty lame. I hate going to the grocery with massive lists of ingredients for recipes because I inevitably forget something, and honestly I am so crazy busy between working a full time job, marathon training, blogging, run coaching, etc. (just like I know you all are too – I don’t even know how those of you with kids do it) that I don’t have tons of time to cook. Unfortunately, I am not the most efficient chef so anytime I step into the kitchen to make something it turns into an evening long event. Therefore, dinner around my house has pretty much been the same thing for the last few months: some pre-cooked chicken sausages warmed up in the microwave, a bit of rice (also from a microwaved bag), and a fruit to finish it off.
Before I said yes to Terra’s Kitchen and choose my three meals I did a bit of research. I really liked that they pride themselves on being farm-to-front door by providing really fresh, seasonal ingredients for all the dishes. They are called Terra’s (the Earth’s) Kitchen because their dished are plant strong, full of nutrients, and they never use artificial or processed ingredients. This was really important to me because I just got back into marathon training and I am not only on a run training plan I am also on a food/healthy eating plan to make sure I am fueling my body correctly for my runs (and to hopefully start ditching some of the weight I gained when I wasn’t running).
I easily placed my order and received a scheduled delivery date for my delivery vessel. The delivery vessel was left outside my apartment while I was at work (a win in itself because I usually have to chase things down from UPS or FEDEX) and even though it was 80+ degrees in the hot South Carolina sun everything inside the vessel was still cool. I was shocked at the packaging when I opened it up. It was like a mini fridge!
Terra’s Kitchen prides themselves on being eco-friendly and this delivery vessel is one way they do that. It can be reused over and over again and creates 0% waste. You just set it out by your front door and it is picked back up the next day – so simple. Then it is back to Terra’s Kitchen to be repacked for another customer.
First, I decided to try making the Grilled Chicken Tacos with Avocado Goat Cheese Sauce. The recipe page laid everything out step by step and was really easy to follow so I knew exactly what to do. Plus, all the ingredients came easily labeled so I would know just what I needed for this recipe. On top of that, everything was pre-portioned and prepped saving a TON of time. All I had to do was cook. Terra’s Kitchen claims that because all the prep work is done each meal can be made in 30 minutes or less. Now, I admitted I am a slow cook so I didn’t finish any of the meals early, but each one did take me right at 30 minutes total. Not bad at all when you see the amazing meals I was able to have in just 30 minutes.
So, the prep work is done, the meals only take 30 minutes, but what is most important for many of us – How did they taste? Oh my gosh! They were fabulous. I saved all 3 recipes (which is easy to do as they are sent on thick cardstock already hole-punched and ready for a binder) so that I can make them again. Plus, I learn some new tricks. For the Crispy Citrus Chicken + Garlic Broccoli Skillet I roasted chickpeas for the first time, something I probably would not have tried otherwise, and it was easy! Now I cannot wait to do it again to add them to more dishes.
Also, mixing avocado and goat cheese together like I did for the tacos… insert drool here. I have already done that again and made a taco bowl where I used the Avocado Goat Cheese Sauce for the dressing. Plus, the Date Night Dinner made me remember how much I love mushrooms over steak and how they are not really a hard addition to do, but make everything so much better (and fancier looking if I do say so myself). Overall, I was thrilled with Terra’s Kitchen meal-kit delivery service. If you are thinking about trying one of the many meal kits out there I highly suggest this one. In fact Terra’s Kitchen is so sure you’ll love their meals too that they are giving you all a coupon code – use SQUAREZERO for $50 of your first order.
