I am not a big one to set “Resolutions” as I feel like that term conjures feelings of changes that will be forgotten just a few weeks into the new year. However, I do like to use the start of a new year as a time to reflect upon my goals. So, I recently sat down and thought about what I really hope to accomplish in 2017, and just as importantly the steps I will take to make those goals a reality. I set four 2017 Health and Wellness Goals and also four Personal and Business Goals (coming in another post soon) and felt like 8 goals was plenty – any more than that and I worried they would get a bit too overwhelming.
So, I am sharing my 2017 Health and Wellness Goals with you today, and the three strategies I am using to meet each goal, not only so you can see where I am headed this year, but also for my own accountability.
2017 Health and Wellness Goals
Medical = get healthier and learn to manage my Leaky Gut and other issues
– stay 100% gluten free (I’ve been bad and sneaking in small cheats)
– continue to see my Functional Medicine Doctor
– visit my sports med chiro for ART (Active Release Techniques) every 2 weeks
Diet = eat better overall, less junk!
– track food daily for accountability
– work hard to control binges, find alternatives
– no late night CVS/Food Lion runs (they are right across the street from my house and sometimes, especially on weekends, I’ll run across the street after dinner and come home with lots of junk!)
Fitness = get back my speed (I slowed down about 2 min a mile over the last 2 years when I got sick)
– ditch the extra 38 pounds of weight I gained
– get cleared to return to Orange Theory Fitness
– commit to my workouts – stop making excuses to skip
Mental Health = feel less mentally exhausted
– focus on getting more rest
– listen to my body when it tells me to slows down (like taking a night off blogging just to relax)
– be kind to myself and don’t pressure myself so much
Let me know –
What are your 2017 Health and Wellness Goals?
Great goals Abby! I’m still working on mine, but hope to post them later this week.
Here’s to a great and healthy 2017!
Thanks so much.
I love all of your goals! I sure hope you have a happy and healthy 2017 Abby! There’s a gas station near our house that my husband and I used to make late night runs to to buy junk! We finally had to nix that, lol!
I am so glad that you two were able to quit that habit, I hope I am able to do the same.
Great goals! I know you have the will to achieve them – I hope your body cooperates. 😉
Thanks so much, me too.
Great goals! Getting more sleep and actually having at least 30 min without phone, TV, computer on before bed is one of my 2017 goals. Sleep and rest are so so so important for your health-I’ve realized I just can’t skimp on it anymore
I need to be better about turning my technology off before bed too – I just bought some new books and I am going to try and read those instead. Otherwise I tend to stare at TV or social media more than I should at night.
These are great goals and I have love how you’ve broken them down into more specifics! Getting more rest and doing a better job of recovery/break from exercises are high on my list of 2017 goals.
That is a great goal – that is one I am really good at. I love rest days, and sometimes take way too many 🙂
Happy New Year, Abby! We share similar goals 🙂 I hope you have a great year!
I hope we both achieve our similar goals.
Great goals and I know you’ll get them! One goal is to run 17 races this year. Since I have to focus on less distance I decided that doing more racing at shorter distance might be a nice distraction and I will try to keep improving on that 5K time but also hope the knee is healthy enough to take on the Indy Mini in May but that will be my only half for the year. The overall health and wellness goal will just be to manage the knee and figure out how I can still run regularly.
So smart to focus on shorter races so that you can get all 17 in.
great goals! Health is #1 and helps us drive the other goals 🙂 I am a little behind schedule but I will be doing some serious reflection and goal setting this week!
Yes, health is my number one – I feel like once I get that straight I’ll be able to take on the world.
Great goals! I feel like we all could work on controlling our binges from time to time – I know I could.
Mine are very stress triggered and I need to find a better outlet than Ben & Jerry.
Great goals, Abby! Looking forward to following along on how you lose 38 lbs. I’d like to lose 20-25, but I don’t really have a plan to get it done, so I didn’t include it in my official goals for the year.
Here’s to a healthy 2017!
Thanks I am trying to do it in baby steps, just thinking about 5 pounds at a time.
You outlined your goals so nicely. I’m typically a shitty goal setter and am way too general. You inspired me to drill down a bit. Happy New Year!
Thanks so much – I try to include strategies with each one, we shall see how I stay on track.
