The holidays can be a hectic, and therefore stressful, time of year. With the hustle and bustle of holiday parties, traveling to family and friends houses, and striving to try and find the perfect gifts for everyone on your list, it is no wonder that the holiday season leaves many of us feeling mentally exhausted and worn out. This holiday be sure to take care of yourself with these 5 ways to stay mentally happy this holiday season.
5 Ways to Stay Mentally Happy this Holiday Season-
1. Watch a Favorite Holiday Movie –
Take time to relax and kick back with a great holiday movie that will put you in the spirit while giving you time to sit down and decompress. Be it a classic like White Christmas, something funny like Elf, or Love Actually for the romantics, there is something to please everyone this holiday season.
2. Enjoy a Cup of Holiday Tea –
During the holiday season every tea maker puts out tons of fun, festive flavors. Snag one to try and then curl up on your couch or in a comfy chair with your favorite blanket and a nice warm holiday flavored tea to relax and unwind after a long day.
3. Baking Holiday Goodies for Friends/Family –
Baking can be therapeutic, if done correctly. Pick you favorite things to make, not what anyone is hassling you for, turn on some holiday music in the background, and maybe even pour yourself a drink. Then enjoy time mixing, baking, decorating, and of course sampling along the way. Everything from the dough to the final product should be checked for quality control.
4. Sponsoring a Family in Need –
One great way to stay mentally happy this holiday season is to do good for someone else. Many local organizations have Angel Trees where you can select a child, receive their information, and then go out shopping for their gifts. Not only is this a very kind gesture, but it can be a lot of fun to choose presents for the child. Not sure where to start – most elementary schools have Angel Trees and are always short on volunteers/donors, so call your local schools.
5. Send Holiday Cards to Those You Love –
One of the most wonderful parts of the holidays, that can lift your spirits and melt away your stress, is receiving cards in the mail. When you open your mailbox excepting bills and junk mail and right there stuck in the middle is a holiday card it makes you smile before it is even open. This year I used Cards Direct to order specialized holiday cards for all my run coaching clients. They are nice, thick, high quality, good looking cards with tons of options to choose from. Ordering from Cards Direct was really simple and the cards showed up at my door in no time. I hope all my clients love their cards and that it makes their holiday just a bit brighter. You can use code BackatSquareZero for 15% off any order (expires 12/31/2016).
