Marathon Training –
I am finally feeling like I am really getting into the marathon training. Every week lately has been 25 miles or more, and while it has been so hot and humid down south I have been running slow, carrying water, and getting my workouts in. I am currently running outside 3 or 4 times a week and going to Orange Theory 2 times a week (I get 3/5 miles of interval work there on the treadmills along with strength work too). My goal is 6 workouts a week, which I have been great about during the summer, but with school starting which adds another 50 hours to my week and not being recovered from being ill my goal will be to hit at least 5 if not all 6.
Okay, this is kind of a lie. I don’t love hills, I hate them. However, I love the feeling I get after conquering one in training. Charleston is perfectly flat, but we do have a huge bridge with a pedestrian lane, so everyone come here for their training. I recently discovered that our Cooper River Bridge actually has a steeper incline and a longer run than the biggest bridge/hill in the NYC marathon so that makes me feel great when I train on it. However, NYC has more than just one bridge/hill and they are spaced throughout the marathon so I feel like I am going to have to find ways to run this multiple times in my long runs and at all different mileage points.
I am not going to lie. I have been taking naps almost every day. I get up, work out, do a bit of work, then take a nap. During the summer this is totally acceptable, during the school year there just won’t be time – it is straight from school, to my workout, to blogging and run coaching, and then suddenly it is bedtime. So, I am enjoying the naps while I can. I am really hoping that my mono hurries up and goes away so that I won’t have to teach through it, but until then I am embracing daily naps. P.S.- So is Harlee, she would prefer I never go back to work and that we just lay around and nap all day.
One of the joys of summer vacation is that I actually get time to relax a bit at night. Usually I head straight from working out and doing work to bed and only really relax on weekend nights, but during the summer there has been time 7 days a week. Woohoo! Which of course means lots and lots of NetFlix watching. I watched Jessica Jones on a recommendation and it was okay. Then I watched Marco Polo because I am a history nerd and the first season was slow, but season 2 was really good. After that I watched the first 2 seasons of Penny Dreadful, a third is out, but has not been released to NetFlix yet. I really enjoyed it. It takes place in Victorian England right after Jack the Ripper when every one if obsessed with horror and gore. It focus on characters from famous Victorian tales of the time and how their lives intersect – witches, vampires, Dorian Gray, and Doctor Frankenstein all make appearances. I really enjoyed seeing how all these famous characters were brought together. (Warning – It is a Showtime show so just like Game of Thrones or True Blood or something like that there are some NC17 moments.)
Now that I am done with Penny Dreadful I have started Gilmore Girls. I kept hearing everyone going on and on about it and the November specials that are coming to NetFlix, but the truth is I had never seen a single episode. I am only about half way through the first season, but there have already been moments that made me laugh out loud and moments that made me cry. It is really good. I did the math and It will only take me 116 hours to watch it all – can anyone write me a Gilmore Girls excuse to work???
Let me know –
