Third time is a charm. After throwing my name into the New York City Marathon Lottery three years in a row I finally won!
I found out just this afternoon when suddenly this appeared in my email inbox:
I am not going to lie, I have a long way to go compared to where I was at this time last year. Instead of knocking out 10-15 mile runs for fun every weekend I am currently easing my body back into running with a run/walk program. (I did 6 sets of 5 min runs/2 min walks with a warm up and cool down today.) It has been a really tough 6 months dealing with injury and medical issues, but I now have something amazing to strive for and maybe that is why I didn’t get in the first two times I tried. Maybe it happened this time instead of those others because I need this more now than ever before. I need a reason to get healthy, get moving, and get back to me – and New York is just that reason.
This will be my fifth full marathon and by the time I run NYC it will be 2.5 years since I ran my last one (in New Orleans) I took time off to focus on the half, which is my favorite distance, but now it is time to challenge myself again. I know some people knock the NYC Marathon saying it is way too expensive and I am not going to lie it is going to be costly. However, this has been my number one running bucket list goal for years and I promised myself I would do it once – I am so over the moon excited not only for the marathon, but also for my first ever trip to New York City.
Let me know –
Have you ever run the NYC marathon?
Have you ever been to NYC? If I had one day to play tourist what is number 1?
