Some runs are sunshine and rainbows and all that happy crap. Some runs, not so much… this is about the run that wasn’t. I woke up on Saturday morning excited for my long run. I honestly do not remember what I did on Saturday mornings before long runs and the accompanying recovery took up my entire morning/afternoon. There is just something about getting my long run done that sets my weekend off right and leaves me feeling fabulous about what is to come. Saturday morning was no different – I left the house ready to tackle my long run and come home to a celebratory post long run nap. The run… well as much as I wanted it to happen sometimes we must admit that a run was not meant to be. My allergies have just started kicking back up, they are worst in the spring and fall, and those first few weeks with them are the toughest. Then, on top of that I was having some stomach drama that we need not go into. As much as I wanted to make it, after just 2 miles I had to call it quits and walk back home.
The next day I laced up my shoes, hit the trail, and was ready for a long run redo. However, once again it was not going to happen – the run that wasn’t take two if you will. I was hit by the exact same issues as the day before and once again had to call it quits. I haven’t missed a long run all summer, so while I was upset it didn’t work out, I couldn’t beat myself up too much about it.
This week I am taking my allergy meds like crazy, praying my stomach drama goes away, and planning on 12 miles this weekend.
