The social media world is currently buzzing about Periscope, a new phone app that allows you to live stream video to followers. This is going to be an amazing addition for social media influencers, small business owners, and just about anyone who is into live, raw, real video and tips. Periscope is just starting out, so I highly suggest getting in on it now, checking it out, getting comfortable with it, and becoming active – being one of the early adopters of this new technology is only going to help you in your business and social media endeavors.
So, once you have started on Periscope by downloading the FREE app and creating/linking an account what do you do? Time for – Periscope 101: How to Be a Rocking Viewer. I am going to share will you all 3 key tips and tricks that will make you and fabulous viewer and increase your following (even before you do your first broadcast). So, select a video to watch and let’s get going.
1. Show your love –
When you are watching a broadcast you are able to give hearts (as seen in the screenshot below) by tapping on the screen. This helpers the speaker to know when you are enjoying the content they are putting out and helps them to fine tune their Periscopes and topics. In addition to that, at the end of a broadcast the speaker is able to see how many hearts you gave and they are more likely to follow someone who was showing them love and support through hearts. So, when you hear something you enjoy or agree with be sure to tap, tap, tap for hearts.
2. Share with others –
When you are enjoying a Periscope, or think it has information that is beneficial to others, it is important to share it. When you share not only does the host see that you are sharing and being supportive, but you are spreading the word about Periscope and helping to grow the community even more. On an Android swipe up to share, on an iPhone swipe left to right and the screen you see in the picture below will pop up. Click on the share button and then you have the option to share with your Twitter followers (at any time) or with your Periscope followers (while the broadcast is live).
3. Follow like minded people –
Finally, I have found one of the easiest ways to find people to follow is to look for them in scopes you are watching. If they are in the same Periscopes you are in there is a great chance that you have similar interests. This means that while you are watching a broadcast in addition to listening to the content, giving hearts (tap, tap, tap…), and sharing – you also need to be watching what others are saying.
In a scope I just watched I liked what @Wildy_Fit said (she seemed like a positive person, see first picture below) so I tapped on her comment. As soon as you tap on someone’s comment a box pops up with the option to “View Profile” (see middle image), click on this to view. When you click the person’s profile pops up so you can see if they really are a good fit and someone you want to follow. The best part – as you are doing this the Periscope is still going on in the background so you don’t miss anything. It is a great way to find, and follow, like minded people.
