The Charleston Half is a flat, fast course; however, it lacks the beauty of the Kiawah race. It runs just a few miles through beautiful downtown and then heads about 7 or 8 miles up one of the ugliest roads in Charleston. Picture train tracks, strip clubs, and run down houses and you about have the gist of the longest section of the course.
My current sub 2 hour (1:58) PR was set on this course over 4 years ago and, while I am improving, I haven’t come close to that mark yet. On a good day, this course can be a smooth run. However, if it is a windy day like last year, those 8 ugly miles are straight into a hard headwind that leaves you cold and miserable.
So what are my goals for this race?
Well I am going to pray for a non-windy day and hope for the best.
C Goal = Sub 2:15 (10:17 avg. or lower)
B Goal = Close to the 2:10:40 I finished with a Kiawah (around a 10:00 avg.)
A Goal = Anything below a 2:10:39 which would be my fastest half in 4 years (9:57 avg.)
Here goes nothing. I cannot wait to go for it this Saturday.
What are your weekend plans?
