I spent years wearing jeans that were too big and baggy t-shirts. I never painted my nails and thought jewelry was something that would look silly on me. I felt no need to do anything that might draw extra attention to myself.
However, as I continue down this road towards a healthy lifestyle I have had some unexpected gains. Some results were pretty standard – I developed a love of running/exercising, lost weight, and gained confidence. This confidence has made me more comfortable with who I am and caused a result I was not expecting – a new found love of fashion!
Now don’t get me wrong, I am not out spending tons on designer labels, or coveting the latest runway looks. It is just that the girl who spent her entire high school years in a pair of khaki cargo pants (many sizes too big), a huge black t-shirt from the theater, no jewelry, and clear nail polish (so I didn’t bite them) is finally having fun picking out what to wear.
Really, I never would have guessed that having fun picking out clothes would be a part of my healthy living transformation. It is such an unexpected, unusual, gain for a girl who used to HATE shopping.
Currently, I am having tons of fun discovering new clothes and styles (all on super sale of course, I am rocking a teacher budget here). Check out some of the stuff I have had fun experimenting with and trying out lately:
– sheer shirts/layering –
I discovered that I love the fit and look of a loose, sheer top with a simple tank underneath.
– wild patterns –
Like this navy with bright pink elephants. How cute and unique are they?
– jewelry –
I tend to wear it with every outfit now and just recently discovered statement necklaces.
