Disclosure – Urban Remedy provided me with the Metabolism Kit for review, but the opinions on the product are completely my own.
When Urban Remedy contacted me about trying one of their products I was instantly intrigued. I had been hearing a ton about juice cleanses, and was really curious, but I could not picture myself going days without food; luckily the Urban Remedy Kits seemed like the perfect thing for me. The kits not only offered me the chance to try some juices, but they also came with food so I would still be able to eat every day. On top of that they were all gluten free and organic which really sealed the deal. I choose the metabolism kit and waited for my order to arrive. My juices and food showed up very soon after, and you are supposed to start the day after receiving them so they are at their freshest. That means make sure you are ready to start and have three days in a row that you can dedicate to the kit when you order. I packed up all the juices and food for work the next day and even took my handy cheat sheet/menu with me so I would make sure I was eating the right thing at the right time.
I had been really interested to try juices like this, but had never bitten the bullet before. I must admit that when they showed up I was both excited and a bit nervous – I mean the Glow looked really green. Overall, I was really impressed. The Green Berry was my absolute favorite. I LOVED this juice. It tastes just like a berry smoothie and I looked forward to it every morning. The Time Machine was different, but good. It tasted like a spicy, fruity, lemonade, but was easy to drink. The Glow was my least favorite, but it was actually way better than I expected. I was worried I wouldn’t be able to drink it and that it would be a struggle to get down (green juice has always terrified me a bit); however, when I tried it I thought, “Wow, this is better than I expected.” I was able to drink the Glow every night without a problem. Overall the juices were great.
The thing I learned the most from my Urban Remedy Metabolism Kit was how much my hydration had been lacking. The kit had you drink three glasses of diet tea a day (I poured my Diet Spikes into them) and also encouraged you to have eight glasses of water a day. Since I was trying to do the kit just as recommended, I made sure to drink all three glasses of tea and my eight glasses of water too. The first day I felt like I was going to float away! I was so bloated and full from all the liquid and I felt like I spent almost my entire day running to the bathroom to pee. This got me to think about how much I had actually been drinking before and it was probably only about 50 ounces of water and 20 ounces of coffee a day – not enough. One thing I have definitely gained from this kit is that I am much more focused on hydrating properly all day long and am making sure to drink at least 80 ounces of water a day.
I loved that this kit let me have real food too. While the juices were delicious, I am the type of person who like to chew my meals and so the Urban Remedy Metabolism Kit was perfect because it allowed just that. I love apples so I was thrilled one of those was included each day, but the gluten free No Oatmeal Cookies were by far the best snack. These bad boys were delicious.
The Spring Rolls and Zen Salad were both super tasty and because I was eating and drinking so much I never felt deprived. I was extremely impressed with the Urban Remedy Metabolism Kit overall.
Urban Remedy recommend you take it easy when doing this kit, just light workouts like walking or yoga. However, if you let them know you plan on working out/training more they can help you supplement your kit with another meal shake. I tried the PB&J and it was delicious with a great smoothie like consistency.
However, truthfully I didn’t feel like I had to have the PB&J shake, even though I was in half marathon training, because the Urban Remedy Metabolism Kit itself filled me up really well.
My daily Weight Watchers goal is 27 points a day and this actually came in at 36 points a day. However, I did not worry about going over because I knew it was all super healthy, quality food (where as usually when I go over it is junk food). For those of you that look at calories it was about 1,400 a day all of fabulous for you stuff.
Overall I would highly suggest the Urban Remedy Metabolism Kit:
– It is a great way to try juicing while still having food.
– A great 3 day reset for your body.
– A good way to get back on track.
– A really tasty program.
– Enough juice/food and calories that you don’t feel deprived or hungry.
*Special – use code SQUARE0 to get three free PB&J shakes with the purchase of any kit.*
Have you tried any juices before?
Do you have a juice that you love to buy or make?
I really love green juices, but usually just buy them one at a time at Earth Fare. I’ve had a few bottled ones I like, though. This seems like a really good program and all the food they included looks delicious. A PB&J shake sounds really, really good as well, especially for a post-workout treat.
It was so yummy and great for refueling post workout.
interesting! i did a 3 day juice cleanse (wrote about it here: http://eatprayrundc.com/2014/05/27/juice-cleanse-review/) and LOVED it. i’d do it again if it wasn’t so expensive. i had no solids on mine, but never really felt deprived. one thing that helped with my really really green juice was using a straw! 🙂
I remember that. I was so amazed by how well you did with it.
I have tried Naked juice and absolutely love it. I knew runners needed to drink alot of water each day. My coach recommends you drink your weight in ounces on the days that you have heavy training. Those days I am visiting the bathroom every 15 minutes. LOL. Glad you enjoyed your trial kit.
Wow. 160 ounces of water would be crazy.
Through the cleanse I realized I was only drinking about 50 ounces of water a day so I am stepping it up a bit and my current goal is 80 ounces.
I’ve never tried any of the juice things before. I think this one looks better than a lot since you do actually get food and are able to eat during the 3 days!!!
Yes, not eating for 3 days worried me a bit.
i love how this includes food, as well! i’ve always wanted to try a juice cleanse, but have been nervous!
This seemed like a great stepping stone since it had both the juice and food.
This sounds really neat! I’m super intrigued and I’m with you – I like to chew my food, so it’s neat that this allows that option! Water consumption is something I also need to work on…
I did not realize how little water I was getting until I did this. Now I am trying to be better.
I like the idea and that it includes real food too — I’d have a hard time not being able to chew anything too. I’m going to look into it — thanks!
I just asked for a discount code in case you look into it.
The code SQAURE0 should be up and working by tomorrow and give you 3 free PB&J shakes if you do decide to order a kit.
This looks and sounds pretty good! Glad to hear you weren’t starving. I did a fast/cleanse a while ago that got pretty intense.
That is why I liked that this one included juice, I felt like the others might be too intense for me.
So glad you had a good experience with a juice cleanse! Mine didnt go so well… http://runwithadrienne.com/2014/02/04/a-tale-of-two-adriennes-or-how-i-failed-at-a-juice-cleanse/
I’m gonna go check out your post now.
yum, yum, yum!! Love that it’s not just juice, all the food looks awesome
Yes, the fact that their was food too is what drew me to it.
I love juices but haven’t done a whole kit before looks awesome
It was great to have everything all preplanned out.
Looks pretty delish! Thanks for the review!
No problem Cari.
This is awesome! Any cleanse that include cookies is fine by me. 🙂
Amen to that.
This is a really interesting kit! The spring rolls and the salad definitely looked yummy!!! If I were you, I’d repost this sometime after thanksgiving and christmas…I’m sure many people will need a metabolism reset after the holidays for sure!!!
That is a really smart idea. I’ll have to remember it.
