Time for another stop on my running tour of Charleston.
I hope you are all enjoying a peek into my favorite local routes.
Last week I showed you a bit about Running the Beaches and the week before I took you on a tour of the beautiful, historic city itself in Running Downtown Charleston, but now it is time to show you one of my most common routes as we go on a trip down my trail – Running the West Ashley Greenway.
The West Ashley Greenway is an old, converted rail trail that runs through Charleston’s West Ashley suburb behind Hwy17/Savannah Hwy. However, it is far enough away from the road that you don’t see/hear the cars and you can enjoy a peaceful run.
The trail and my neighborhood probably tie for my most frequent run routes.
As much as I love running downtown, the bridge, the beaches, etc. it is easiest to head out the door and make a lap around the neighborhood or jump on the trail. This is especially convenient on weekdays after work when I am already tired and don’t want to drive somewhere to run.
I personally love the trail for many reasons:
– Entrance only 0.3 miles from my house
– Very few car crossings (only 2 in almost 4 miles)
– Wonderfully empty and peaceful
– About 4 miles from my house to one end (8 mile round trip)
– Paved in one direction, unpaved the other
– Well maintained
– Beautiful marsh scenery at the end
Do you have a go to running route? (I choose my neighborhood & The Greenway most days.)
Are you more likely to run close to home on weekdays? (Or do you switch it up often?)
