After my blog post last week, Running Downtown Charleston, took you on a run through my beautiful and historic town with me, I thought it would be fun to show you a few more of my favorite places to run/workout in Charleston.
Seeing as Charleston is a coastal city, you cannot mention Charleston without also mentioning the beaches/ocean. There are tons of beach options here from Sullivan’s and IOP, to Folly, and even Kiawah. I personally usually skip Folly because it has the worst traffic – awful.
However, if you head out early and beat the rush you can have most of the other beaches pretty much to yourself. My mom and I headed out to Beachwalker Park on Kiawah Island at 9:00 one Saturday morning and while the area near the entrance was a bit crowded the rest of the beach was beautifully empty even on a weekend.
I had a great time walking on the beach with my mom, but the local beaches are also fun places to get early morning runs in. The sound of the ocean, smell of the salt water, and feel of the breeze are so rejuvenating. You can’t help enjoying your run (or walk) when you are in a place like this.
It is great to live in a city where I am able to run the beautiful, historic downtown or head out to the beach. Charleston has spoiled me as a runner.
In the next few weeks I plan on showing you a few more of my favorite places to run in Charleston.
What is you favorite place to run?
Do you usually run the same routes or switch it up a bit.
