My last long run = Horrendous.
20 miles in about the same time I wanted to run the entire marathon.
In the past month since my newest injury (hello Plantar Fasciitis) my time has dropped almost 2 whole minutes a mile! Plus, I have to stop and stretch a ton which adds even more time. Then, on top of that, today I even had to walk the last few miles.
I am terrified.
My long runs are usually sacred and, bearing some horrible occurrence, I finish them all exactly as planned out. Even when I wasn’t feeling 100% before Nashville I still managed to get all the long run mileage done.
This time my 18 turned into a 10 and my two 20 milers basically became 16s.
Uggghhhh… Scream! However, I am going to focus on a positive note – how blessed am I that my Garmin says 20 miles?!? Not many people are lucky enough to say they had such a productive morning, or such great views when running. (I tackled the bridges on the barrier islands and got some beautiful marsh scenery.)
I am worried totally freaked out that I didn’t get any runs longer than 16 miles in this training cycle, but it is taper time now, and I am going to hope my body uses this time to recover just a bit. Only three weeks until the Marine Corp Marathon, and while I would prefer not to, I will crawl across that finish line if need be.
Have you ever done something you didn’t feel prepared for?
Can you lie and tell me it went great? (Please.)
