We all know that the crazy diets, “magic pills”, etc. do not work. The true secret to losing weight – eat healthy and exercise, it sounds so simple, yet at times it can be so hard.
I have been working very hard myself to count calories and exercise regularly in the midst of this FitFluential Diet Bet (the final weigh in is tomorrow). However, while I have been doing well and probably would win this on my own, as I have been marathon training and eating healthy, I discovered some new weight loss tricks along the way.
1. Get the flu – you are miserable, have epic hot flashes and ridiculous cold chills, sleep 16-18 hours a day, feel like hell, and end up with a fever so high you pray to God that you don’t die and become one of those flu statistics because you are sure you are not going to make it through the night. (You also text your two best friends and tell them to remove anything inappropriate from your house before your parents have to clean it out.)
However, as you are only awake about 6 hours a day, feel like you got hit by a bus, and must force yourself to eat you end up way, way below your calorie goal everyday for an entire week.
2. Accidently give yourself food poisoning – you will spend all night puking your guts out, vomiting so hard it comes out of your nose, get absolutely no sleep, spend multiple days feeling disgusting, be so weak you feel as though you could pass out at any moment, and spend all your energy trying not to heave on everyone you come into contact with when you are forced to go into work because you just took multiple days off the week before with the flu.
On the plus side though you can eat next to nothing. I subsided for two whole days on just this loaf of bread, Sprite, and water. More calories disappearing like crazy, Win!
Obviously, this is a joke. Getting food poisoning and the flu were horrible and in truth with the crazy way I work out I end up with a higher calorie deficit from my ridiculous sweat sessions than I do from not eating and vomiting my guts out. Miserable. Not worth it. Worst way to lose weight ever!
Sorry there is no weekly Sunday recipe this week, I cannot ever think about food like that right now. I pray to the heavens I’ll be back, healthy, eating, and cooking next week.
Until then – Don’t eat tomatoes that taste a bit off, turns out they are rotten.
Another lesson I should be old enough and smart enough to not learn the hard way.
Bless my heart! (That is Southern for a whole string of mean words mommas don’t like you to say.)
What you do this weekend while I was couch bound?
Tell me fun stories. Let me live vicariously.

I was totally going to say, bless your heart. AHAHA! Love the south. I “ran” a trail 10k today. I say “ran” because the truth is that I walked most of it due to an injury that I am finally admitting is an injury. Doctor’s appointment to be made tomorrow. Bless my heart too.
Oh, crap. Good luck at your doctor’s appt tomorrow. I hope they find a solution.
Oh No! Sorry for your troubles (but you did make me laugh – not AT you, with WITH you, of course)
Hope you recover quickly. — Lea
Thank you Lea.
Oh my gosh, you poor thing! Ugh, that is terrible! I hope you get better soon! I spent my weekend eating lots of crap (I won’t win part of the diet bet, so enjoy my share if you do win) and then doing a long run on the treadmill. But I too ate something that was off today and now my stomach is doing an unhappy dance.
I am so sorry you are feeling bad too.
I tried to run today, but just wasn’t feeling it so I walked instead.
Oh no- I’m feel so badly for you! Having the flu is really rough, and having food poisoning is just nasty, and to have them so close together is just really unfortunate. I think you’ve had your share of illness for awhile and I hope you’re back to feeling 100% very quickly! I got food poisoning in October when I was in Spain, and interestingly it took almost two months for me to be able to eat tomatoes without getting bad heart burn. Weird, right?
I am too am hoping that I’ve had my share for a while and will improve from here.
You’ve had some serious bad luck my dearest!!! I pray you get (and stay) back to your 100% self immediately!!!!!!! Xo
Thank you so much Jenna I appreciate the prays.
My weekend… I ran 8 miles yesterday, 9 miles today. Attended a foam rolling (i.e. torture) seminar at TrySports and ate yummy pancakes with 2 of the TrySports guys. Went out to Michaelango’s Kitchen (Hello restaurant.com gift certificate!) for a cheap V-day date last night. Went to Target today and got some super deals. That’s really it.
I was kinda worried about you too, thought about you today on the Greenway which is why I facebooked ya, glad to see you writing again and doing a bit better. I hope you have a speedy recovery from the food poisoning.
Thanks Amy. I am still taking it easy, no run today like I had hoped. Maybe by tomorrow.
Oh crap! So sorry that all of this happened to you. I love that you can see the funny side. But crap!
I feel like you just got laugh at all this craziness otherwise you are just miserable.
awww I hope you are feeling better!
Thank you Danielle.
You poor thing! I swear I think you have the crappiest luck girl and you still smile and have a sense of humor which is why I think you’re so awesome;) xo
I try to stay positive, and a bit goofy, about it because I figure there is no point in dwelling on it.
I hope you’ve beaten off your illnesses and don’t have to deal with being sick for a very long time. It sucks that you keep getting hit with all of these nasty bugs. Here’s hoping that things get better!
Thanks Beth. I am hopeful that once I recover from all this I will be feeling so much better and ready to run.
:-[ BOOOOO! Food poisoning is the worstttttt! I’m sending all my good juju your way (health + otherwise!)
I went to a gospel brunch this weekend at House of Blues Orlando and couldn’t stop gigling the whole time. It was the epitome of gospel blues group – little bitty lady with a big voice, a rather rotund teddy bear kind of guy, their straight laced brother, a bass player who looks like he’s seen a whole lot of recreational drugs in a past life, and a drummer with a fro for a beard. I will try to get pics up this week
Oh my goodness the group sounds amazing. I cannot wait to see.
OMG, Abby! You poor thing! I can’t even imagine going through all that! My fun story from this weekend is that my hubby took me to my favorite sushi restaurant ever. I was in sushi heaven! Hope this week is better for you!!
I was just realizing I have not has sushi in way too long. I will need to find an excuse to go.
Argh, AGAIN??? Is your body trying to declare mutiny or something??
I know right. Crazy!
LMAO, yep, those sure work. But having had food poisoning once, I can’t quite recommend it (thinks back to a vaction in Tunisia where he had raw milk that apparently had gone bad and later desperately, desperately tried to find a restroom that could be identified as such)
Food poisoning overseas would be the worst! At least I was at my own house.
You poor thing.. You just can’t catch a break, can ya? Rest up.. AGAIN & MORE! Sending good thoughts your way!!
Thanks Haley. I had the day off and pretty much slept the whole time.
Hope you’re feeling better!
Thanks so much Clarinda. I am slowly improving.
I hope you never do either Laura it is horrid.
