Check out my latest progress report as I venture on this journey from back at square zero to redemption marathon:
Sorry I am a goober, I wish I could say that was an on camera personality, but it is the real me -
What you see is what you get!
While I am happy about my progress, sans stupid flu bug, I still have a long way to go.
I am getting faster, running further, and in less pain than I was a few months ago when I returned to running post injury forced hiatus; however, I still have a long road ahead to return to my pre-injury form. As long as my pain stays at a low manageable level, though, I believe I will continue to get better and improve. (Which is why I am still doing my PT stretches every night.)
What do you think:
Am I being smart by waiting or should I hurry up and register for Rock’n’Roll Nashville now? (The race is only 2 months away.)

At two months out, you should probably know within the next 2-3 weeks if you can realistically complete it or not, I don’t think you did anything wrong by waiting. I never register for races until maybe 2-3 weeks before. Well… I take that back. I registered for the Charleston half 2 months before because there was a discount code… I was even weary doing that even though everyone else I knew registered that weekend. I’m registered for a May race but it’s a 5K in Florence that I’ve vowed to do each year so not even a matter of injury or not being able to complete really, it’s just a 5K and if something happened I wouldn’t mind that the organizers got my money as a donation.
Really it does sound like you’re making great progress despite the setbacks. Hopefully they are just setting you up for a comeback in Nashville.
I think that you are right and I will know in two or three weeks when I hit 15-16 miles. Fingers crossed.
heyyyyy ya’ll! just love hearing your voice!!! makes me so happy! i def think you are doing the right thing by waiting. youre not crazy, just being smart! you gotta listen to your bod!! <3
Thanks Jenna. So glad you like my crazy vlogs.
Even though it will cost more, I too would wait to sign up because you just never know what will happen. I haven’t signed up for any new races this year (still only have the ones lined up that I purchased last year) because I too want to make sure I can run them! Plus I will likely be moving toward the end of the year (not sure when exactly), so hard to make plans if I’m not sure where I will be… keep up the good work and I’m glad that flu bug is gone!!!
I think I missed all the cheapo deadlines anyway so as long as it doesn’t sell out waiting won’t hurt.
Darn! I can’t get your video to open on my tablet even though I have the YouTube app. I think what Amy says and wait until a few weeks out and then decide if you should register.
I am sorry it didn’t open Carli, but missing zany me might not be bad;)
Glad you are feeling better and getting back to it!! RR Nash is one of my favorite races!! Keep the slow and steady back
I am glad to hear you like it. I am so terrified. I HATE hills!
You’re smart! And hi Abby I love seeing u via Vlog
marathons aren’t cheap!
I am glad you like the vlogs and I do think I will wait until my mileage is a bit higher than 13.
If there’s no difference in cost between registering now and waiting a few weeks, I don’t think there’s a lot of harm in waiting. I’ve been putting off officially registering for my spring marathon, too, for similar reasons. That said, it sounds like your training is coming along really well and I’m sure you’ll be able to finish out your training. And, the nice thing about the RNR races is that if something goes horribly wrong, you can always switch to the half. Good luck!
I guess we can wait and see how we both do, you know, better safe than sorry – or out marathon money in this case.
You gotta do it! Whether you register today or a bit later, how exciting it will be for you to get out there! I am doing my first Rock N’ Roll in November, in my favorite city, VEGAS baby! Anyway, thanks for the vlog, very motivating and great to see and HEAR
how excited you are about running
I want to do it for sure, I will do it as long as a am healthy enough. Fingers crossed my body cooperates.
I’m with Jenna – love hearing you!
Is it too soon? Maybe, but only you know! I wish we could give you an easy answer.
I am so glad you are mostly recovered. I’m not convinced I’ve ever properly had the flu, but it seems awful. Mr The Rake was asking if you werw making owl noises – Lol!
The flu is the devil. I hope you never get it.
I literally prayed not to DIE one night.

I am wait, wait, waiting:)
I adore the real you, Abby.
I know you want to register early to get the most discount but I don’t think it’s hurting anything to wait a bit. I have no doubt that you’ll be able to do the marathon but it’s ok to not have that pressure looming over you right now.
I’m going to wait a few weeks just to be sure.
If you’re still going back and forth and the race isn’t gonna fill up, I say wait. Something is telling you that you’re not ready. But if you suddenly feel ready tomorrow, sign up! I find that I can change my mind very quickly. Kudos for keeping up the PT stretches…I got lazy and now my calf is bothering me again.
I actually write myself a list and put PT stretches on it everyday. Then I get to cross something off when I do them:)
You look perfectly fine in the video! I don’t know how I really come across, but have long ago given up trying to look good on camera. These days I declare it simply as my personality!
Oh, I know I don’t look good, but boy do I act goofy too. Oh well.
I don’t think you should wait too much longer to register, I always want to register as early as possible to avoid paying way too much for races (and Rock ‘n’ Roll races are rather expensive). Like other people said you should know soon if you can do it, I think you can!
It is already the full price so I missed out, now it is just about making sure it doesn’t sell out!
