A week ago I did my initial Diet Bet weigh in after explaining all my reasons and motivation for participating in the FitFluential Diet Bet.
Weight In = 167.2
Week 1 = 164.4 = – 2.8 (Ignore the awesome socks, they were hidden under boots.)
You’d think I’d be beyond excited about this – I exceeded my 2 pound a week goal. However, I am in fact very disappointed in myself because I know the number on the scale does not reflect my true behavior last week (whoops!).
Watch my short vlog to see what went wrong and what I am going to try and do differently.
How do you get back on track?
and more importantly …
How do you stick to good portion control?

heyyyy, ya’ll abbs! <3 so happy to hear your lovely voice!! beautiful even with your wet hair! i think that you are doing an amazing job, because you know that you arent perfect and you arent pretending to be! you are enjoying your life and the journey of losing the weight which is the most important thing! being too strict will only cause misery, desire, and regret! you are right on track and doing wonderfully!!! keep it up, lady! the moderation is key!
Thanks Jenna. I think it is important to admit that I am very much not perfect. So many people strive for perfection and just get let down. Better to be real and honest I say.
I’m glad you met your goal, even if you don’t feel like you should be really happy because of how you ate. But, as cliche as it sounds, you really only live once. Diets are great, weight loss, or even eating and avoiding certain foods to “fuel” for exercise. But ultimately it’s just not worth it if it means you’re missing out on the fun, social, cultural, aspects of food. Plus you looked super strong and happy at the race Saturday too!
And, I love your socks
. I wear striped fuzzy socks almost every day and they aren’t hidden in boots… granted they are on my feet inside my house where not many people see, but still. Socks are awesome
.
Glad you like the socks. I always wear crazy ones under my boots
I agree with you that diets are not worth it. I am trying to eat healthier overall, but I am also allowing myself to go out and enjoy the foods I love. I am just hoping to learn a bit of moderation.
You’ve gt this girl! #goalgetter2013!!
Thanks Kat.
All you can do now is just look forward and keep doing your best! Fingers crossed those 2lbs stay off! Will make your challenge that much more doable!
Thanks Nicole. I am moving forward and hoping to make better decisions.
Don’t let some slip-ups conceal the much bigger picture. You are making good, and even exceeding your goal. Wipe the crumbs off of your face, put your big girl panties on, and finish that goal!
PS – I happen to think those socks are pretty awesome.
crumbs wiped off…. big girl panties… what are saying about the size of my panties? HA!
You need to stop beating yourself up! You are amazing! Celebrate the small successes! You are doing something right
Thank you so much Mindy. I was shocked to see the number went down, it shouldn’t have. However, WOOHOO!
STUPID PORTION CONTROL! LOL! I wish portions were far bigger than they are… But as long as you’re loading up on HEALTHY foods, you really shouldn’t feel THAT badly!! Regardless YOU LOST WEIGHT and I am SUPER STOKED FOR YOU even though you are not all that stoked! Take charge this week, you can do it
Thanks GiGi. I too wish portions were way bigger! I am such a good eater.
I struggle with portion control. Especially lately because I have been sooooo hungry! But I figure that even if I eat more because my body needs it, I am okay as long as my food choices are healthy. You are doing a great job!
Well, portions can be humonogus if it’s lettuce. Not so much, if it’s pizza
Too bad. I’d rather have a TON of pizza than a ton of lettuce.
I totally agree I am starving right now. Trying to eat smart, but I get frustrated when I feel as though I eat back my entire workout.
I think you should be rather happy with two pounds lost in a week. From my experience that is the upper limit for healthy weight loss – if you lose more than that, you likely aren’t getting enough essential nutrients.
Oh, I am beyond happy with 2 pounds, it is just that I don’t think I did that well. I probably should have gained with the way I ate. Think I got lucky.
Hey still be proud of yourself! You are doing great!
I could definitely stick to portion control better, but with marathon training in full swing (with semi-tri base training), I’m constantly HUNGRY! I can’t really every feel satisfied so my portions are a little out of control.
I am starving right now too. I ran my fastest run in a long time, really pushed it today, and now want to eat EVERYTHING! You are right it is hard to feel satisfied.
I think the key to any healthy living lifestyle is to stop concentrating on what you’ve done wrong in the past and instead focus on continuing to make healthy choices in the future. You can’t go back and change what you ate last weekend, but you can change what you eat tonight and tomorrow. Good luck and try not to get too bogged down with the past.
Thanks Beth, I know I am not perfect, but am trying to make better decisions and learn a bit more day by day.
I think your weight loss is fantastic; don’t let little indiscretions derail you from losing sight of the big picture: You’re accomplishing your goal!!
Ok, for some reason this post hates me. Third times a charm for leaving a comment – hopefully….
Or it loves you and you just left three comments because you REALLY like me:)
Woohoo! The thing with all of this is that you know all the tricks, and some days are just a complete write-off
. Congrats Abby, and good luck for next week.
You are right Kate, I do know what to do, it is just making myself do it.
