Marine Corp Marathon Motivation

So after my super sad Marine Corp Marathon deferment last year I am really looking forward to it this year.  It will be the icing on my 13 races in 2013 cake, the one I am by far the most excited about.

As if I wasn’t already over the moon about MCM2013 I got perhaps the best Christmas present ever!  Not only was it a running related present, but it was given to me just for the Marine Marathon and it is probably the most thoughtful, amazing gift I have ever gotten.  Thanks dadmo.

Check out my amazing Christmas morning surprise.

I cannot wait to reach my 2013 running goals, especially running the Marine Corp Marathon in remembrance of my fabulous, kind Bobbin! (on the left)

My dad (on the right) was a Marine too, Vietnam.  Look how handsome they both are in their Marine Corp dress uniforms!

Have you ever received a present so thoughtful it really surprised you?  (Do tell.  I love stories.)

  1. That is so sweet!! My Dad and husband were both Marines.

We are so going to ROCK the MCM this year. I, too, had to defer last year’s entry due to injury. I am sooo ready for it this year.

  2. I read about this race on another blog, it was a recap. I think it was Noah Moore’s blog (don’t know if you know him, but he’s a runner here in town)… and it sounds like so. much. fun. I know you’re doing it in honor of family but it just seems like an amazing opportunity to be able to run around DC… and if I ever did a full this would probably be it. Sorry about the deferment but this year you are back and will be better than ever :) .

  3. Family ‘heirlooms’ are truly the best gifts since they are imbued with history and family ties! So wonderful your dad gave that to you, really is a wonderful and thoughtful present. I suppose it was ‘fate’ for you to be injured and wait a year so you could run with that pin :)

P.S. I heard on the radio last week that yes, people do in fact give cars as gifts with those bows, but that the dealerships request that they be returned after ‘opening’ since they cost $150 each. They’d rather cut the cost and ‘reuse’ bows than have to buy $150 for each car they sell as a ‘gift’.

    • That is ridiculous. I say if you are crazy enough to buy the car as a gift you can probably afford to keep and not return the $150 bow.

  4. Awesome motivation Abs! Yay for seeing you there! ;)

  5. so very cool!! MCM is going to be amazing and a huge emotional accomplishment!! (ps oompa loompa….)

  6. I’m so jealous you get to run MCM! I tried to make it work for this year but sadly with the timing and location it’s a no go. I’m going to live MCM vicariously through you!

  7. Such an awesome and touching gift Abby! I about cried when you told me what your Dad said to you! Awesome! You are going to ROCK MCM!!!!

  8. I simply LOVED that. You are are right – it’s not the cars with the bows (and you’re right – there AREN’T cars with bows in real life) – it’s stuff like this. Thank you for sharing and you’ll rock the Marine Corps Marathon. (Annnnnnd ps – thank you for your comment on my blog recently – I appreciated that you felt like you could be honest about Magic Mike and I understand where you’re coming from on that.)

    • I am so excited about Marine Corp Marathon.
I did love the way the Magic Mike boys looked though. I watch True Blood just to stare at one of them (the firefighter) who is one that show too (and shirtless most of the time).

  9. What a sweet, meaningful gift! (and you made me tear up while watching!)

FYI: my grandfather had a Buick dealership for forty years, and there were a few times (very few) that one of his customers bought a car as a Christmas gift, and yes, they did the whole giant bow thing!
